In order for Ezekiel to willingly go back and forth to Xavier's school four times a day, we've started letting him ride his bike. That means our 10-20 minute walk (depending on his mood and whether or not he had on his fast shoes) has turned into a 5 minute or less jog for me. I am consistently running out of my jeans. It's quite embarrassing. I've never been a runner, never want to be a runner. I need a scooter, but that's just one of many things on my Christmas wish list this year.
Since we're going at break neck speed, we pass quite a few other parents. We've been working on how to ask politely for someone to move over so we can pass. I've learned from people asking me whenever we're walking anywhere. Ezekiel's doing pretty well for the most part and the parents usually smile at me knowingly as I try to catch up. Well, this afternoon on our way home Ezekiel was reviewing his French with me. He said, "When you pass someone you say 'passe s'il vous plaît', and that means GET OUT OF MY WAY!" And that's exactly what he's telling these other parents 'PASSE S'IL VOUS PLAIT!"
A few more things of note that I learned at school today. Ezekiel has learned that he gets in trouble with the teachers if he runs out of the building without me. He runs to the door, but stops far enough away so the teachers waving to everyone can't touch him. He holds my hand through the doorway and then immediately lets go to run to his bike. I know he's not going any farther than the bike (it's locked up), but I appreciate the teachers stopping him.
I also met another mom today that told me her son talks about Xavier at home all the time and was happy to put a name with a face. This is the second mom that's told me this. I'm afraid to ask what they're saying, but last week when we got back to school after lunch, three or four boys were all calling for him to wave. Xavier ignored all of them and then proceeded to tell me he didn't want to go to school. Ugh. I wish he'd talk to me and let me know what really goes on at school all day. We're really looking forward to his teenage years.
Xavier's fever broke last night and Ezekiel was up at 4 am. I'm thankful they're healthy, but hoping for a little more sleep for myself tonight!
