Happy Halloween - Sort of...

Well, as we anticipated, there was no trick-or-treating for us last night. I've enjoyed seeing all of my friends' kids dressed up (yeah for technology!) and I was pretty sad that we didn't get to go to New Horizon last night. This is going to be a year of exciting firsts and a year of first time missed. Oh well, we'll get through it.

The toddler playgroup that we went to during the summer did have a Halloween party yesterday. Since Xavier is off of school for the week, we went to the party. It was a last minute decision, but the boys made pretty cute "train engineers". Yeah for overalls! At the party, they created a train out of toy buckets and were running circles around the room for most of the hour.

Making spiders!

My little engineers :-)

Xavier has been begging for a jack-o-lantern. He's always enjoyed the pumpkins, but he hates to get messy, so we weren't going to mess with finding pumpkins. But, he kept insisting, so I started looking for pumpkins. I also wanted to make another pumpkin pie from scratch so I was doubly looking. Well, the closest thing to a pie pumpkin that I could find was 5 euros! Something that probably cost me less than $2 last year. :-( So, we broke the sad new to Xavier, but that didn't stopped his begging. At his school, the first year teacher had a perfect American pumpkin pie pumpkin. I decided to ask where she got it (afraid to ask the cost). It was in Switzerland, so yesterday when we were in Switzerland for the Halloween party, we stopped at the store. Xavier won. We bought three pumpkins. One for each of them to carve and one for me to make my pie.

The finished products

I suppose the joy that it brought Xavier to carve his pumpkin was worth the $15, but I'm not sure. He's insisted that we put them on the porch so that everyone can see their way home in the dark. I'm hoping to convince him to let me make pumpkin bread out of them tonight so I won't feel like we completely threw away the money, but he's not convinced. Ezekiel is though (he loves his food) so at least we should get something.

The ledge of our railing is too steep for the to sit where anyone can see them, but Xavier insisted that they be outside.

Anyways, I hope you all had a Happy Halloween!
